Justin Thomas holds the record for fewest strokes in a single tournament
Justin Thomas is widely regarded as one of the best golfers in the world right now. The 27-year-old superstar has held the world No. 1 title several times over the past few years, and he will have several major championships when all is said and done.
When Thomas catches fire on the course, there is hardly anyone in the world who can follow him. That's exactly what happened at the 2017 Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Thomas started the tournament with a 59 on Thursday. He didn't slow down the rest of the weekend either, posting 64, 65 and 65 to finish the tournament at 27 under par.

Waialae Country Club is a golf course by 70, so Thomas finished the weekend with a total score of 253. It is now the lowest total of 72 holes in PGA Tour history, but it is not the lowest in terms of par.$
Who says you have to hit the ball for a mile to get low on the PGA Tour? Ernie Els, easy to swing, put an end to this myth by shooting a par 261 of 31 under the 2003 Mercedes Championship.
Els won the tournament by eight strokes in a rash.
"It makes me feel very, very comfortable right now," Els said after the win. "I can go there and really think about trying to play well. I'm really looking forward to the year now. It's really a perfect start, something I needed.
Apparently, Hawaii is the most sympathetic U.S. state to low scores. Els, 31, was made during Kapalua plantation in Lahaina, HI.

Ernie Els may have the lowest score of 72 holes for a single tournament in PGA Tour history, but fellow veteran Steve Stricker beat him in a five-round event.
At the 2009 Bob Hope Classic, Stricker managed 33 under par in the first four rounds of the tournament. The amazing part? Stricker didn't even win the event. Pat Perez beat Stricker in the fifth round and eventually won the tournament after being 30 under par in his own 72-hole streak.
Stricker may hold the 72-hole record, but he would have preferred to win that day.

Honourable mention of the longest trips in PGA Tour history :
Dustin Johnson is a frequent visitor to the world's longest hard drive list. It has two of the longest records ever recorded. Johnson crushed a 463-yarder in 2011 and another 489 yards in 2018. He also nearly made a 433-yard hole two years ago. The ball was all the way but stopped a few inches from the hole.
Tiger Woods may not be one of the longest hitters this season, but he has one of the biggest records of all time. In 2002, Woods threw a 498-yard bomb on the 18th hole of the Mercedes Championship on the Kapalua plantation course. It is now the longest recorded record of the 21st century.
The first drive of more than 500 yards came from Mike Austin in 1974. Austin crashed a 515-yard deep at the Senior Seniors National Championship at Winterwood Golf Course. The most impressive part? Austin was 64 when he dropped the bomb. The Guinness Book of World Records still recognizes the Austin course as the longest official shot in golf history, but one has traveled further.

The Korn Ferry Tour had a hole last season that measured 773 yards. It's a par 5 at the Colorado TPC Championship. The longest ride ever recorded on Tour would have rolled on the green on this monster.
It's true. The furthest unofficial drive in history covered 787 metres before finally coming to rest - 330 metres after the planned hole.
Carl Cooper, who was 31 at the time, smoked the historic record at the Texas Open in 1992. Cooper opened the drive on the 456-yard third hole. The bullet landed on a cart path and took off. He continued his journey along the cart path beyond the third hole to the 12th green. Cooper's junior calculated the distance at 787 yards from the third tee.
Cooper might be thrilled with the record-breaking driving today, but he certainly wasn't at the time. He then recorded a double bogey on the hole.
