Golf Swing Teaching - An FAQ For Beginners Just Starting to Play Golf :

Are you starting to play golf? There's a lot to remember and learn, isn't there? Some things are important, while others seem absolutely insignificant in comparison. Can you tell the difference? Here is a list of 10 questions that beginners often ask themselves about learning to play golf.

Golf Swing Teaching - An FAQ For Beginners Just Starting to Play Golf

1. What is the best way to learn golf?

Get golf courses for beginners. There is no doubt that most people learn golf better by having a human instructor alive. You want a reputable instructor. For starters, don't receive individual instructions (even if you can afford it). You would like to attend a course with a few other students. This gives you a little competition, which always helps motivate your learning. In the long run, it's also easier to find people to play with after you finish your classes.

2. What should I learn first - how to drive the golf ball, make a chipping or a putting?

In general, it depends on your golf instructor. Many golf schools and commercial coaches emphasize golf swing instructions. What for? Because that's what most beginner golfers want to learn. Most golfers, especially beginners, want to emulate Tiger Woods' spectacular 200-yard drives.

However, what most fans don't realize is that the pros make a living from a superior putting. 30% to 40% of your game is spent betting. This statistic even applies to pros. Many high-handicap players find that getting dedicated golf instructions has helped reduce their disability.

As a beginner, you will find yourself in trouble most of the time. You'll probably end up spending 15 to 20 shots chipping the ball... on your good days. Learning to play your pitching wedge and sand wedge well is a must.

Anyway, don't forget to ask your golf instructor to evaluate your grip. Before you even learn to swing the club, you need to learn how to properly grab a golf club. In my circle, it was an important part of teaching golf swing, but I've heard that modern golf coaches place less importance on taking. Why should you care? Because many players hang or cut their balls because of a bad catch. There is no reason not to learn to properly enter your golf club. If you need more help than your instructor can give you, why not buy training handles? Amazon sells them for as little as $5 (at the time of writing). You may find them uncomfortable at first, but it just shows that you have a problem with your grip.

3. What should I wear on the golf course?

If you are taking beginner golf courses, pick up the phone and ask your instructor. However, golf is now very commercially available. On most routes, it is possible to wear any type of collared shirt and pants (without jeans). Many places are starting to allow even casual khaki t-shirts and pants.

4. Do I have to tip my golf instructor?

Would you like to tip your server for good service? If you think your instructor has helped you a lot, give them a tip to show your appreciation.

5. Which clubs do I need to play golf?

You need exactly 14 golf clubs in a real game. You need a screwdriver (1 wood), 3 wood and 5 wood, a set of (7) irons from 3 to 9, a pitch hold, a sand hold, a putter and another club of your choice. As a beginner, you will have a lot of problems - choosing a third wedge or a hybrid club can be very helpful.

6. What are bespoke clubs? Do I need it?

Many years ago, most people would simply go to their local golf shop to buy clubs in the store. Today's golf shops are much more advanced. They can actually customize your clubs your way, sometimes for free!

Unless your instructor advises you to buy custom clubs, I would avoid them as a beginner. Bespoke golf clubs are the best for intermediate level players who have developed a stable golf swing. At this (intermediate) level, you will find a driver, a putter and custom wedges very useful to reduce your handicap.

7. What are the best clubs for me?

As a beginner, a complete and cheap set of used golf clubs is the best. Know that you will make mistakes - many mistakes. You're going to hit your club in the ground and bend it. You will lose control of your club and bend it. You're going to miss the ball and break your club.

You really need very cheap clubs with which you dare to make mistakes. This is your learning set - these clubs are consumable. You should expect to replace your clubs several times during your first years of playing... if you are seriously planning to reduce your golf handicap.

A $400 Callaway driver is not a good club for a beginner. An expensive club like this will cripple your game. You won't dare throw it hard. You'll be too scared to break up the club to train. On the other hand, a used X-Factor Super Zolex off eBay is another matter. Who cares how many of them you bend or break when learning to drive the ball?

8. What are the best aids in golf swing training?

To be honest, sign up for beginner golf courses. Then buy four or five boxes of golf balls to train. You can get used balls in good condition from Amazon for as little as $0.50 a piece. Top players like Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh (one of the best winners on the golf circuit) don't just rely on their natural talent to win. They hit hundreds of golf balls every day. If you plan to improve your golf swing, hit at least one bucket of balls every weekend.

Frankly, for beginners, most golf swing training aids are useless unless used under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Until you always have good contact with your golf balls and you can hit the ideal point of your club relatively often, any help to golf swing training available commercially is a waste of time and money.

9. Can I learn golf with free online golf courses?

Well, the PGA has some very good videos. But don't expect to get anything for nothing. Most free online golf courses won't give you everything. You should know that these sites expect to sell you something. This means that there are usually important details hidden from you. If you are naturally good at sports, you could probably find the hidden key. But for most of us, we need everything. And that means paying - whether it's a DVD course, an online course or face-to-face golf courses with a human instructor.

10. What is the perfect golf swing?

There is no such thing. If you look at the pros, you'll find that everyone swings differently. That said, there are two main types of golf swing: swing to one plane and swing to two planes. The swing to a plan was launched by Ben Hogan and Jim Hardy, and uses a more natural rotating swinging motion where you match your arms and shoulders throughout the swing. Today you can see Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods using this type of swing. Many other professionals use the two-plane swing, where they mix the flat rotation of their bodies with the vertical swinging of their arms. For those of you old enough to remember him, that's how Jack Nicklaus plays.
